Another story on preparations across Nebraska for the centennial of the Lincoln Highway:
Lori Cravens and Candy Yurcak are creating an IMAX film exploring historic roads in Indiana, including the Lincoln Highway, and why they are worth preserving. The film will be shown at this year’s Preserving the Historic Road conference in September.
Jamie, a blogger from Ohio, has been posting her travels along “the greatest road across the U.S.A.” in her blog, My Lincoln Highway. Currently, her trips have been concentrated in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
As the Lincoln Highway prepares to celebrate its centennial in Kearney, Nebraska next year, residents across the state are starting projects to beautify the highway.
The Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition has put up lists of the murals and interpretive gazebos it has been producing throughout the state on its website.
Singer/songwriter Cece Otto writes about Al Jolson’s 1928 hit single, “Golden Gate,” including a music video (also embedded below). Listen carefully and you’ll hear a couple of references to your favorite coast-to-coast highway.
Communities along U.S. 30 in Nebraska are working on various projects to prepare for celebrating the Lincoln Highway’s centennial in 2013.
RDG Planning and Design has created a 13-minute documentary on the Lincoln Highway called This Highway, Dedicated to Abraham Lincoln. It was produced in association with Harrison County Conservation for the Harrison County Historical Village and Welcome Center outside of Missouri Valley, Iowa.
