WWI-era motorcycles to commemorate 1919 Army convoy at inauguration

On Jan. 20, the Wheels Through Time American Transportation Museum in Maggie Valley [North Carolina], will be making history once again — this time, participating in the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Day Parade. During the historic event, the museum will bring a small fleet of WWI era motorcycles to Washington to participate in a procession celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the transcontinental Army motor convoy on the Lincoln Highway in 1919.

We’re looking for the marker in San Francisco, with no success so far. Can you help us locate it? I understand it is somewhere near the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park.

I was wondering if anyone knew the history, age, and what state this Old National Trails Road sign may be from? It is porcelain and has a makers identification from Chicago in the lower corner. At an estate sale here in St Louis this weekend I located these two bronze plated pot metal Madonna of the Trail statues they are about 8″ tall and have the states on the left and right sides, and “The Old National Trails Roas on the back. In the lower right corner they have the initals of CR and the year 1928? a complete road trip or partial road trip(s) along the hiway would be great,,just like the route 66 tours that are avalible. you would think this would be embraced by each state and the small towns along the way? you would think the ststes involved would welcome the buisness.

I am riding my motorcycle from Livermore, CA to the Great lakes next year and want to follow the Lincoln Hwy as much as possible. Does anyone have a map(s) they would like to part with that cover this route? I have already traveled all of Rt66 by motorcycle. 925-292-9007
