May 2000 Chapter News

by Mary Salazar - Chapter President

Recently an opportunity became available for a grant in Placer County to promote tourism. Through this I found we needed to be incorporated, have bylaws, and be insured. Enclosed are the bylaws proposed and corrected at our last chapter meeting. We will vote on them at our next chapter meeting on July 9. I have received the incorporation papers and am working on them. The quotes I have received for insurance have been prohibitive. Can anyone help on this?

The Historical Society of West Sacramento has requested us to make four concrete Lincoln Highway markers for them and have sent money for them. I ordered eight medallions for these from Esther Oyster in Ohio, and they have been received.

A special thanks to member Jerry M. Fisher, author of the book The Pacesetter: The Untold Story of Carl G. Fisher, creator of the Indy 500, Miami Beach, and the Lincoln Highway. We will use the book as a raffle on our September 23 tour. The money raised will be used toward Lincoln Highway signs.

Thank you, George Clark, for the California Chapter happenings in the last issue of the Lincoln Highway Forum.
