Quarterly Chapter Meeting Notes – Saturday, January 13, 2024

Bernhard House Museum
Auburn, California

  1. Meeting called to order at 12:57 p.m.
  2. Introductions/Attendance Sign-in Sheet Count
    1. 24 members have shown up.
    2. Thank you, Monica, for your lasagna and all the work putting the lunch together. It was delicious!
  3. Presentation: Bernhard House History
    1. Ralph Gibson, Director of the Facilities in Placer County, gave our presentation on the Bernard House.
  4. Approval of Meeting Minutes
    1. There are no minutes to be approved this month.
  5. Officer, Staff, and Committee Reports

    1. Neil Rodrigues: State Director
      1. Neil will lead a Wishbone Tour with his Ramblers Motorcycle Club. It goes from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe along one alignment, around Lake Tahoe, and then returns along the other alignment. Neil is out there promoting the highway as much as he can.
    2. Joel Windmiller: President
      1. Sisley Road Update: The county voted to repave the road. This was a disappointing outcome. They will stripe the road and add an LH logo to show that this is an original section of the Lincoln Highway. Neil motioned to put a sign on the end of Sisley Road. Trey seconded the motion after further discussion, and the motion was passed.
      2. El Dorado County: Moe Mohana told Joel that El Dorado County has a plan to extend Country Club Drive to Tong Road, which would result in Tong Road being overlaid. We are at stage one, where we can voice our opinions to the county. They are open to discussions around preserving the road. We are hoping they can reroute the road towards another area. Save the road!!!
      3. Joel’s to-do list for 2024
        1. LH post along Lang Road in Emigrant Gap near the Nyack Lodge.
      4. Request from Rocklin Historical Society: Trey will give the presentation. One idea is to have it be in conjunction with a LH meeting so that we can all meet together.
      5. Locations for our Chapter Meetings
        1. A handout was given at the meeting, which can be attached to these minutes. We need places where we can have a meeting and lunch without spending much money from our member's budget.
        2. If you have any suggestions for a meeting place, please let Joel or Trey know. They are happy to do the legwork. It’s nice to have historic areas where we can do a potluck instead of a restaurant, where the cost could be too much for some of our members.
        3. Paul Gilger sent a picture of the clean-up of the LH Terminus in San Francisco. It is looking very spiffy.
    3. Trey Pitsenberger: Vice President / Signage / Traveler / Historian
      1. The Traveler has not been published the last two times due to burnout from the Lincoln Highway Conference in June. Trey is always looking for articles from the members. Please be brave and write about our highway. Even a poem, sketch, or picture can be from our members. Trey is talking to Jimmy about having the newsletter link sent to you directly to our email mailboxes. If members can click it opened instead of going somewhere else to view The Traveler, then more people would access and read it.
      2. No new signage has gone up. We are trying to get municipalities to make their own signs and put them up in conjunction with where we think the signs should go on the map.
      3. Historian aspect: We have an official archive stored in a building that Trey and Monica own. They are protected. Since we do have the archives, we are looking for donations to keep in the archives.
    4. Grant Gassman: Treasurer’s Report

      1. Disbursements
        1. Meeting: $150
        2. Chapter PO Box: $152

        2. National: $132
      3. Balance: upon request
    5. Paulette Johnston: Recording Secretary

      1. Paulette is working on a class project to submit a bill to make LH a historic highway. She will be investigating the project and looking for people who can guide her or her class through the process.
    6. Mark Hoffman: Tours
      1. Not able to attend due to his radio show.
    7. Jimmy Lin: Website Update: Unable to attend and no report submitted.
    8. Speakers/Presentations: Included in officer reports
      1. Andrew Saunders: New member of the Lincoln Highway Association. He lives close to the Lincoln Highway and would like to get signage in Citrus Heights. Andrew gave an overview of the LH in Citrus Heights. Paul Gilger has added these historic places to the Lincoln Highway online Map.
      2. Orangevale Historical Society has a museum that has a section on the Lincoln Highway.
  6. Officer Elections:
