HARRISON COUNTY

Lincoln Highway County Consul (1924): W. Allen Jones

"For real enthusiasm the big county meeting held in the auditorium here Friday evening went far ahead of any previous effort in this direction.  This meeting was only one of a thousand held the same night from one end of the highway to the other.  It was a jollification event, a celebration of the establishment of the national highway, the first in the history of the country.

Of course, the road is not completed yet.  The string of bonfires burning last Friday night from the Atlantic to the Pacific together with feasting and making merry, the eloquent and spontaneous bursts of oratory mark the real beginning rather than the end of this mammoth project.  When the golden spike is driven there will probably be further demonstration."
