"Four miles west of the Carroll County line the Lincoln Highway will begin a long slant to the southwest, passing through some of the most picturesque country in Iowa, to reach the bridge which carried it out of the mud and into Nebraska. This slant carries the Boyer River, the railroads, and the Lincoln Highway through the loess hills of western Iowa."
